About

Interprets the ballet of the "M.Biesu" National Theater of Opera and Ballet from the Republic of Moldova.

Swan Lake is a ballet in four acts composed by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky between 1875 and 1876. It is one of the most famous and beloved ballets in the history of classical music. The world premiere took place at the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow on March 4, 1877.

Story: The ballet tells the tragic story of Princess Odette, who is turned into a swan by an evil wizard, Rothbart. The spell can only be broken if a man who has never sworn love to another woman promises her eternal love. Prince Siegfried, during a hunting party, meets the swans and Odette, and falls in love with her. He vows to free her from the curse, but the sorcerer and his daughter, Odile, who bears a striking resemblance to Odette, plot to deceive them.

Act I: At Prince Siegfried's castle, a party is held to celebrate his birthday. The prince's mother reminds him that he must choose a bride at the ball the following evening.

Act II: The prince goes hunting and discovers a magical lake where he meets a group of beautiful swans. At their head is Odette, an enchanted princess. Siegfried falls in love with Odette and promises to save her.

Act III: At the castle ball, Rothbart appears in disguise, bringing his daughter Odile, who looks like Odette. Siegfried, believing Odile to be Odette, swears his eternal love to her. Odette, who appears at that moment, is devastated.

Act IV: Siegfried realizes his mistake and rushes to the lake to ask for forgiveness. Odette forgives him, but the curse cannot be broken. In some versions of the ballet, the two jump into the lake and die together, and in others, Siegfried confronts the sorcerer and, after an intense battle, defeats him, thus breaking the curse.

Music: Tchaikovsky's music is known for its beauty and emotional complexity. The most famous pieces include the "Dance of the Swans" and the Odette-Odile "Pas de deux".

Choreography: The original was choreographed by Julius Reisinger, but the most popular and enduring versions were created by Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov for an 1895 revival at the Mariinsky Theater in St. Petersburg.

"Swan Lake" is appreciated for its combination of emotional music, captivating story and spectacular choreography, remaining a pillar of the classical ballet repertoire.
